The Brevard Indian River Lagoon Coalition (BIRLC) was instrumental in 2016 in educating our community, after the massive fish kill, and in passing the Brevard Save Our Indian River Lagoon (SOIRL) 1/2 cent sales tax Plan. The Melbourne Regional Chamber was one of our key allies in that effort and we continue to thank you.

The SOIRL Plan is co-funding some 400 projects to reduce pollution by an amazing 1.4 million pounds/year to heal the Lagoon.  Nearly 200 of these projects are complete or in progress today. 

The BIRLC has continued to play an active role in educating the public, and advocating for better rules and funding to accelerate restoration efforts by groups like: St John's River Water Management District, the Indian River Lagoon National Estuary Program, the Brevard Zoo, the County, our cities and State Government.

We are known for our Lagoon Straight Talk events that give residents an opportunity to ask their questions of experts and "get straight answers." We continue to work with our extensive partner network through a variety of communication channels.
